Hi,

You still have a lot of options for the kart.
For simple chassis take a look at the following PDF:

For Transmission - you may be limited in what you can choose.
Using a centrifugal clutch and chain would be my preferred option.

However if you have to go up hills and off-road, you may have to use a
torque converter.
