Hi,
Thanks for your good comments on the kartbuilding.net website. I hope it
helps you with your kartbuilding.
Regarding the Engine mounting see:
http://kartbuilding.net/racingkart/Free_Racing_Kart_Plans_PDF/Main_Kart_Complete_15_Engine_Cradle.pdf
http://kartbuilding.net/racingkart/Free_Racing_Kart_Plans_PDF/Main_Kart_Complete_16_Engine_Cradle_Support.pdf
They are two PDFs of the Engine Mounting on the Racing Kart at:
http://kartbuilding.net/racingkart/index.html
More information on an Engine Mounting for another kart can be seen on:
http://kartbuilding.net/Freeplans/enginemounting.htm
This above page breaks the Mounting down into two parts, the "baseplate"
and the "cradle". The baseplate is welded/bolted to the chassis and the
cradle can slide forward/backwards in this baseplate. This makes adjust
the tension on the chain easy.
Regarding transmission, I recommend using a simple chain and sprocket
drive. Of course it depends on the type of engine you have. Take a look at
the photo gallery showing lots of details:

Best of luck,
-steve
