Hi Bryan,
I'm not sure how successful it would be to source the front steering setup
complete, especially out of wood. You may be able to get a front steering
setup out of aluminium or similar, however even then sizing may be an
issue.
A fellow kartbuilder emailed me previously about a gravity racing kart.

You might get some good ideas from the above emails. It would be good also
if you could see what other people are doing on their karts in the race.
You will probably end up making the front steering, and in which case you
will have to be careful, using correct bearings and lightweight wheels.
