[Kartbuilding] Weed wacker or eater engine

Hi,
A weed wacker engine is quite small. It will be just able to power a kart.
A weed wacker engine has an output drive shaft to the side (horizontal).
As a result you can use a chain drive. There may be a "clutch" already on
the weed wacker engine, so when the engine speed goes up, the drive shaft
turns.
If not, you'll need to get a centrifugal clutch:

As the weed wacker engine has a horizontal drive shaft, you don't have to
put the engine at the rear of the wooden kart (as on:
http://www.kartbuilding.net/Lawnmower_Powered_Wooden_Go-Kart_Plans/ )
Instead, you can modify the above design so the engine is above one of the
rear wheels, connecting up with a sprocket and chain drive. You'll have to
use a chain drive from a motorcycle. The chains off a bicycle are too
small and will come off.
There are a lot of bits involved. Read through the website:

I'd make the wooden kart first and then see about connecting up the
engine.
Best of luck,
-steve
